Michelin
A system that substitutes a vehicle’s engine with in-wheel motors will be formulated in China for production.
Michelin’s Active Wheel, first seen on the Venturi Volage and WILL concepts at the Paris Motor Show in October, has now been equipped to working model cars in China. The system discards the need for the conventional transmission and suspension set-up.
The novel system will have a pair of motors incorporated into its central hub: one motor propels the wheel and the other an electrical suspension and braking network. It’s planned to work with a pure electrical power train or a fuel cell set-up and can be used to a variety of vehicles.
Michelin has entered into an agreement with the Guoan Mengguli Corporation in China to develop and test the lithium-ion batteries used in the Active Wheel system.
